Charity Presentation: Useful info for Newcomers to Beijing!

Moving to a new city, let alone a new country, can be an incredibly stressful experience. And in China, dealing with a completely different lifestyle, culture, food and language can make it even more so.

But there are ways to take away some of the stress, including learning as much as you can about your destination city and talking to expats who already live there. Read on to find out how Cultural Keys can help you, your staff or group with this process through our Newcomers Presentation!

At Cultural Keys, we specialize in helping both newcomers and veterans in China access traditional Chinese culture through a variety of workshops, products and services. Over the years, those offerings have helped countless people gain a better insight into the culture and history of China.

While hands-on experience is an important part of feeling at home, sometimes basic information is more immediately useful. So Cultural Keys has put together a collection of the most essential information useful to anyone arriving in Beijing for the first time.

“We really enjoyed it! We will share this link with the wider embassy community”
– Community Liaison Office, US Embassy

Based on over 30 years total experience living in Beijing, our team has designed our Newcomers Presentation to provide the most pressing information, answer the most important questions and help everyone settle in as soon as possible.

Who is this newcomers presentation suitable for?

At this difficult time it is perhaps even more important than usual for you or your staff to know what they can expect when they arrive, or to help those already here with the transition. It is designed for anyone who is travelling to Beijing with the intention of staying long-term, because it focuses on the core aspects of daily life here. It may also be useful for people who have previously lived in Beijing, but are returning after a number of years away, as things change very quickly in the capital!

Join us online on September 2nd 2021 at 7pm to listen to the presentation for just 50RMB. All proceeds from this presentation go to Lifeline, which operates an English-language helpline for anyone experiencing mental health challenges.

We also offer this presentation as a private, in-house presentation to companies, institutions and groups with new staff or members currently in Beijing (either online or in person), or before arrival (online).

“The perfect activity to join for fun, knowledge and to get new and fresh view”
– Juanita C.

This presentation is ideal to help you, your new staff or members get a handle on the essentials of living in Beijing quickly, with practical, hands on information and advice from native-English speakers who have years of experience living here. It can help reassure those who have any concerns about living here and shows your team that you value their comfort and want them to settle into their new home as quickly and smoothly as possible.

The September 2nd presentation lasts for one hour and covers the following points:

  • Getting around the city via public transportation
  • What to expect of the food you can find here, both local and international
  • What the health care options are like and how to access them
  • Options for banking
  • How shopping and payment systems work…

… And more! The presentation is made by a native English speaker, so all the information is presented clearly and concisely. Time is also given at the end for a Q&A session and the presentation can be tailored to include any other information you feel would be pertinent to your group.

Please scan the QR code on the poster to sign up for the September 2nd presentation!

Who are the hosts of the Newcomers Presentation?

British co-founders Nicola Doering  and AJ Donnelly have been in China almost 40 years between them. Over the decades since their arrival, they have immersed themselves in all things Chinese, developing a love, understanding and respect for the people and the culture of this beautiful country.

It is that love that is the basis of their passion and determination to help bring Chinese culture to the world, and help more people develop the same understanding and appreciation for it in the way their time being here has done for them.

If you aren’t able to join us for this presentation on September 2nd, or would like to book Cultural Keys to give this presentation to your group or team, we are happy to arrange a custom session for you.

The presentation can be delivered either in person or online depending on the needs of your group, For more information about organising a private Newcomers Presentation presentation for your company, school, team or other group, please contact us to discuss prices and arrangements for holding this presentation privately either online or in-person.

We are currently offering this presentation free to Beijing embassy staff or family members. If your embassy has 10 or more participants (or wish to combine with other embassies to make over 10) contact us about arranging a private presentation.

“Fun, informative, engaging, memorable!”
– Alek R.
