Beautiful Beijing: the best sights we saw this spring!

May is the month when spring transitions into summer. Although in the west (northern hemisphere) summer doesn’t begin until the solstice on June 21st, in China summer already began on May 5th with the start of the seventh solar term, Lixia.

How To Get To Python Mountain – A lesser-known Beijing scenic spot

Are you looking for somewhere different to see autumn colour in the Chinese capital this fall? Perhaps consider a visit to Mangshan Forest Park (蟒山国家森林公园)! It couldn’t be simpler to get to and is one of Beijing’s less crowded spots for a dose of nature!

Modern take on traditional deities now on display in Beijing

If you’ve been into the underpass at Beijing’s Guomao intersection (between the south-east corner under the bus station to exit C of the subway station) recently, you have probably noticed this massive mural on the wall at the western end. It’s entitled ‘The Gods go to Work’ and this explosion of colour is full of recognisable – and not so recognisable – homages to Chinese and specifically Beijing culture, both traditional and modern. But what does it all mean and why is it at Guomao? Read on to find out!

Where are we now? Updates from Beijing’s Culture Community!

“退一步 进两步” Maneuver back one step, advance forward two steps. Whereas the current situation in China might be described by some as ‘two steps forward, one step back’, there are very few who could deny the current path is a very practical, beneficial one. With its most recent lockdowns, China strategically took one-step back, so as we can all collectively move forward two steps in the very near future. Glass half full indeed!
