Preserving a treasure trove of Buddhist art in northern China
One of China’s major Buddhist sites, the Yungang Grottoes consist of 53 large caves (and many smaller ones) and over 51,000 statues carved into the rocks during the 5th and 6th centuries. Despite the weird title of this article, it’s a fascinating glimpse into the efforts made over the years to protect the site. Have you ever visited Yungang? Copy cats and horse-face skirts
There’s been some controversy recently over a ‘unique’ skirt designed by French fashion house Dior. Chinese traditional fashion enthusiasts claim that the skirt is actually inspired by a ‘horse-face’ skirt which originated in the Song dynasty. Find out more in this article. What’s your take?
