Highlights of CK’s Year of the Tiger

The Year of the Tiger was a fantastic one for CK! We had the opportunity to develop a lot of new products, meet a lot of great people, and get our business ready for the Chinese border to reopen in the Year of the Rabbit.

See some of our highlights below!

AJ is a Great Wall Hero!

Cultural Keys’ founder AJ Donnelly was honoured to be amongst the five long-term Beijing residents named a Great Wall Hero by the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau. Having promoted the culture of Beijing and China for many years, AJ was thrilled to take part.

Beijing Municipal Cultural and Tourism Bureau is committed to promoting Beijing as a vibrant and exciting choice for global tourism when China fully reopens. As part of that, ‘Great Wall Heroes’ is a global marketing campaign aimed at attracting people to visit Beijing in the future. As part of the campaign, which has been running since 2016, five high-profile, long-term residents of Beijing who have contributed to Beijing culture, society or business life are chosen to convey their love for the city by taking part in different tourism activities that showcase different areas of the city.

Trip to Guizhou

In August 2022, CK was honoured to be invited to visit Guizhou, a province in China’s southwest that isn’t on the more well-known tourist trails. Guizhou is mountainous and heavily forested, leading to its reputation for clean air, and the development of its many minority groups.

Highland Games

CK attended the Highland Games to provide some fun Chinese arts and crafts activities for attendees. It was an exciting event with lots of dancing, kilts and haggis – and of course some Chinese culture thrown into the mix! The day was organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China and the Beijing Scottish Society, and attended by Caroline Wilson, the British Ambassador to China. Even the weather got in on the act with drizzle throughout the afternoon!

Lion Dancing at Taikoo Li

Cultural Keys was invited to hold a lion dancing workshop and performances for a group of foreign and Chinese participants, all of whom did a fantastic job preparing a short performance for the public in under 2 hours! The event was organised by Talent Beyond Borders, an organisation that connects expats to experiences and opportunities in Beijing.
