Cultural Keys has a full calendar of cultural events and activities for you to enjoy over the coming weeks, including martial arts, calligraphy workshops, fan and gourd painting, an online presentation about Shadow Play, and Halloween fun for all the family!

Shaolin Warriors Way Workshop – Saturday Oct 18th

Chinese mythology is full of stories of vampires, ghosts and ghouls! Join Cultural Keys on Halloween this year to learn about more about Chinese monsters of lore, hear stories to make you shiver, do Halloween crafts and learn how to do face painting with a ghastly Chinese twist under the guidance of a professional face painter!

Chinese Calligraphy Beginners Workshop – Saturday Nov 7th

Cultural Keys is thrilled to see the return of our always popular calligraphy workshops this coming November! This event includes a presentation on the history of Chinese calligraphy, a dumpling lunch at a local Chinese restaurant and a 2-hour workshop with a calligrapher. By the end you will be able to write an auspicious Chinese phrase that you can take home!

The History of Chinese Shadow Puppetry – Online Nov 12th

Before the introduction of television to China’s rural areas in the 1980s, shadow puppetry (also known as shadow play) was a primary form of visual entertainment, and played a crucial role in passing down China’s oral history and traditions. In this presentation you’ll learn about the history and craftsmanship behind this captivating folk art!

Chinese Fan Painting Workshop – Saturday Nov 21st

The workshop includes a presentation about the history and significance of Chinese gourds, a dumpling lunch and a 2-hour workshop led by a local expert on Chinese painting!

If we do not meet the required minimum number of participants, you will receive a full refund. Once payment is made and your booking has been confirmed, we are unable to offer refunds. The Cultural Keys Chinese Culture Centre has dogs on the premises, and we also burn incense. If you are allergic, our events might not be suitable for you.
