Cultural presentations online via WeChat this March from Cultural Keys!

While most educational centres in Beijing are closed, people still have a thirst for learning that needs satisfying! Join Cultural Keys online for 4 fascinating informal presentations on Chinese traditional ink painting, dragon and lion dancing, the Shaolin Temple and Chinese folk arts and crafts.

Each presentations will give an introduction to the basics of each topic and are followed by a short discussion. They are free of charge and will be held every Friday in March at 10am on WeChat, with informative slides sent into the group as the presentation progresses. 

Read on to find out more about the topics and what you will learn!

March 6th: Chinese traditional ink painting (with Nic)

One of the oldest continuous art forms in the world, ink painting is considered to have reached it’s high point during the Tang and Song dynasties. In this presentation, find out more about the history and techniques of painting and see some examples of this exquisite art form.

March 13th: Dragon and lion dancing (with Nic)

 

Many of us have been entranced by a dragon or lion dance, perhaps even before we came to China! In the presentation, you will learn more about the history of the tradition, the costumes and the skills involved.

March 20th: The Shaolin Temple (with AJ)

Why is this temple so famous? What is the connection between a temple and martial arts? What is the temple like in modern times? Find all this out in this presentation.

March 27th: Chinese Folk Arts and Crafts (with Nic)

China is famous for its plethora of different folk arts and crafts. In this presentation we’ll learn more about a few examples, including paper cutting, sugar art, shadow puppets, rice clay figurines… and more!

The limit for participants is 8 per presentation, with each session starting at 10am and running for approximately 45 minutes, including a talk on the history, culture and language points given by AJ or Nic about each topic, followed by a casual discussion on some of the topics raised during each session.
